Jury statement
There are films that have a power you can't escape. Films of explosive power, loud and contrasty, impressive picture fireworks that whirl you around. And there are the other movies. They're simple, very quiet. They implode and pull you into their wake. There's no escaping them. The power of these films lies in their silence, in their reduction and in their precision. When films have something to say, an urgency that comes from deep inside and seeks its expression, it doesn't matter if they loud or quiet, whether they explode or implode. And it doesn't matter how long they are: They strike one down, and they stay. INSIDE ME is a quiet film of great impact. It's about life and death, in a few strokes. It's about freedom and self-determination.
It's about a young woman who has to make a decision. This film brings us close to an experience that not all of us have and that is not easy to classify. This film takes us inside. And leads us into the surprising lightness of realizing that life is not about the right or wrong of a decision, but simply about making it and growing from it.
