Belarus 1991: After the death of her mother, nine-year-old Yasya is unceremoniously deported to an orphanage. Although she makes her first tender bonds of friendship here and is allowed to be a child for the first time, she can hardly wait for her father to pick her up again. When he does not show up, Jasja decides to return to her village on her own initiative, where she has to realize that her home has changed.

Jury statement:
From the end of childhood: The mother of 9-year-old Jasja has died. But there is still the father and the little brother. Jasja's days are now marked by the hard work of caring for the family, but the closeness to the two is comforting. But her small universe is shattering: Her father brings her to the orphanage - kilometers away from her home village - with the firm promise to pick her up every weekend. "Forget it, my parents never come", - the children in the orphanage don't give her any hope. But Jasja waits and waits and waits. Then she flees and sets off home. After a arduous journey, she arrives just in time - because a wedding is being celebrated. Her father marries. The bitter betrayal of her father makes Jasja realize that she is on her own from now on. She bravely dares a new beginning.
Aliaksei Paluyan stages with poetic imagery on location in Belarus with amateur actors and almost without dialogue - inspired by the novel of the same name by Viktor Marinowitsch. He succeeds in doing this in an unsentimental, but extremely touching way.
