Some days she imagines she can make body parts of people who seem evil to her fall off with her pure power of thought. Other days, everyone around her looks beautiful. And when she was little, she wished that flowers would grow out of her footprints.

Jurybegründung
The mountains of plastic waste are growing, the climate is collapsing, our bananas are contaminated with pesticides, plus the constant pressure in our environment to conform to the social norm - and then our cat kills an innocent mouse right before our eyes. "I'm so sorry for everything," the protagonist sighs, looking dreamily from her cosy sofa. How is it possible to live a good life in the face of suffering? Perhaps with dreams. Dreams in which annoying people's heads simply fall off. With the bitterly wicked animation DER NATÜRLICHE TOD DER MAUS (The Natural Death of the Mouse), Katharina Huber exposes a society that is slowly becoming morally hardened in the daily contradiction of the simultaneous striving for world improvement and self-realisation. Consistent and enormously precise in text and sound, her drawing and collage technique, together with an outstanding sound level, develops an irresistible pull right into the centre of our current state of mind.
