Jury Statement
Anti-Semitism has once again gone from being a subliminal symptom to an open wound in society.
Rarely has a film so openly and provocatively exposed the stereotypes and clichés of this anti-Semitism. The cocktail served up to us here holds a mirror up to everyone, to German non-Jews with their knee-jerk reactions against the backdrop of the Holocaust and their ignorance of Jewish culture. But also Jews who fall for populists who hide their anti-Semitism behind anti-Islamism. Playfully, casually and with bitter wit, filmmakers Arkadij Khaet and Mickey Paatzsch stage an educational film of a special kind with a fast pace and full of energy. Mention should also be made of the great acting performance of the protagonist Alexander Wertmann and the camera work that involves us in the action.
A film that leaves us laughing in the end. Thank you!
