To escape the loneliness of the rough street life, the homeless Andi harasses his acquaintance Sandra. Between restrained tenderness and subliminal violence begins a constant struggle for closeness and distance.

Jury statement:
AFTER THE FEST by Hannes Schilling tells of the fleeting encounter of a couple in one night. Together the two homeless people break into a strange house and get closer. The amateur actors act freely and impartially in front of the camera and allow a calm look into their faces, into which their lives have burned themselves in. The insecurity of their intimacy, the awkwardness in dealing with their conflicting feelings is captured very gently, almost tenderly.
The result is a light and at the same time almost compelling closeness of these two extraordinary protagonists. It is of great effect when, like two children, they fool around with the spray cream for far too long: empathy for them tips over into an irritating distance. The dignity of a human being is highly fragile, this film tells us, very precisely designed. It brings us close to an experience that is largely unknown to most viewers: What it means to exist dirty and foul-smelling alone in public space, while preserving one's own dignity. A clever and outstanding film.
