Jury Statement
She: a hot-headed runaway hitchhiking south to get as far away from her annoying mother as possible. He: the lonesome cowboy who is old enough to be her father. A classic chamber play that unfolds in the car and at anonymous rest stops. It is a delight to see how dialogue, actors, costumes and staging go hand in hand to draw - supported by discreet and cleverly used camera work - two characters who grow on you in just 18 minutes.
The strength of this film lies in the fact that it uses its means elegantly and skilfully to refuse a common narrative. For it adds a role to the repertoire of male stereotypes that is long overdue: that of the man who has no interest in exploiting his position of power, but rather knows about his responsibility and takes it on. Remarkable.
